Our first Sunday without a real church!

Anyways so we were supposed to have internet in today so we could skype into the online branch here in China. But of course, no internet. So Katie and I dressed up and went over to Abby and Greg’s apartment- he had special permission to do the sacrament, so we listened to some music, he blessed the bread, more music, a few words, and that was that.
Very simple, quiet, and nice. I really enjoyed  the peacefulness that came out of our little meeting, and it was great to still be able to have a form of church service while out here!

After that, we walked over to the school up the street for lunch. Some of the most bland food we’ve had yet. I ate a garlic chunk soaked in some sort of sauce… it was bland. And I was disappointed because I had thought it was chicken. Anyways, there was some slimy cold noodles none of us finished, then this hard cooked corn with spam chunks or some weird meat that started out good but after a few bites I couldn’t finish. There were potato chunk shaving things as well, mixed with green peppers, meat crumbs and more which was totally tasty. I’m trying not to eat too much rice here, though, so I was the only one without white rice on their plate at our table. I don’t want to get sick of it yet!

Then we found our office! Well, the lovely Nicole found them for us. A nice room to the four of us, with our own little cubicle and computers and stuff. And finally given our schedules- although it looks like things are still getting a little moved around. I just know Tuesdays are my busy days with about four classes, I don’t teach on Fridays, we do Activity Classes outside with students after dinner, and then Katie and I assist Nicole in her Grade 9 International Class on Wednesday evenings.

Definitely looks like we’ll be spending most of our days at the school. Much less time for exploring which is kind of sad, but the kids are cute! Many stay at school during the week so a lot were coming in since school starts tomorrow and everything, and we got to say hello to some.

Nicole also showed us where our classrooms are. I think I am the only one who has all of them on the same floor- and close to our offices, which is super nice! Yay! Still, it’ll take me a while to remember which one is where, you know? So… that should be interesting! I’m also worried about trying to set up the projector tomorrow for my powerpoint, but we’ll see how that goes, eh?

Then I fiddled around on my computer for a bit, enjoying the internet a bit, and eventually we headed out. After that, Katie and I settled down to watch a movie since her cold is still really bothering her. Then I started planning a few back up lessons just in case since Katie and I still don’t have any of our textbooks [I know, it’s ridiculous, but I’m learning to work with it, haha].

It’s been crazy that Katie and I have been spending so much time together- we do just about everything together. We talk, play the ukulele and sing, read, watch a movie together- or we get out of the house to do something, still together. We may be going a little insane, I don’t know. I think we’re pretty well adjusted to a point, however, and nothing’s been worrisome yet so we’re doing good! But it’ll be weird starting tomorrow to work on different schedules.

Oh, but we should be getting water in the apartment tomorrow! Water coolers by the door for us, usually about two. Which we need, since Katie drank about all our five liter container the other day within 24 hours. Whereas I enjoyed a strange strawberry crème soda…

Can’t wait to teach the third graders tomorrow? I have the first two classes of them, and then I play with them after dinner. Hopefully they understand some of what I say! And there’s a morning assembly where we were asked to talk and introduce ourselves, but I still have no idea what to say… uh oh! Haha. Hopefully I think of something!
