Sept 22 2013

9/22/13
Sunday! And because we didn’t have school on Thursday or Friday, we had it today. Not as cool. But all the same, it was nice to be back to teaching!
We chilled out and read for a bit, and finished up the water at our house.
And we went to the school!
We went about 10, not too positive on the day’s schedule. But thank goodness our last news report was correct, we were redoing Wednesday’s lessons. So Katie taught, and I chilled out on the computer most of the time. Then we had lunch. That was very uneventful. The food didn’t seem appetizing at all, I don’t know if it was me or the food. I ate very little over all.
More fiddling on the computer! For another 3 hours, yay!
And finally, to my afternoon class, my Grade 3 Class 1. I had a few ideas how I would run this class, with plenty to do, but I wasn’t too sure on what, persay. It’s definitely something I need to work on! However, Katie gave me some really good ideas to work on from my Grade 5 class on Friday, so I put those to use.
It started working!
Kevin, the awesome class helper, tried to help me out with making the thumb drive work, but it was stubborn so we gave it [he tries so hard!] up. I brought out my colored paper strips [they love and get super picky. So I always run out of purple right away], and tried to explain to write their name down. English name, of course. Trickier than it should have been!
I had at least three kids only right down fruits that they liked. That’s what they do a lot of the time- or they’ll do their name, favorite fruit, what they like to do, and/or something more! Which is cute, but not what I needed. Luckily I only had a few of those, but was able to work with the rest.
Folded up in a make shift box I created from paper, we did a random form of Pictionary for the entirety of class. They love calling out Teacher! That gets super distracting. But I tried only pulling names from the box to make it totally random, which worked a bit.
Except then it got confusing because I have 3 Kevins, then a Bahby and a Baby and a Baba. Plus Annie and Eddy have a hard time hearing the difference of their names. So it was a tricky process but a good bit of fun, over all!
Finally, it ended and the other teachers rushed in to take over. So I headed out and waved to Katie passing towards another class of hers! I went back to fiddling online and glancing through the Grade 9 International class for a while.
Until about 40 minutes passed and Katie’s second class came looking for her. There were at least 7 of them, confused at Katie’s empty chair. So they took me and dragged me over instead! Very touchy-feely and just adorable! They brought me to their class, pointed out Katie’s time on the schedule, and I nodded but we didn’t understand each other anymore after that. So they took to hugging me, jumping on me, showing me how well they can do the splits [holy cow], and then their fish and turtles. So I held my first turtle today! Not necessarily by choice, but that’s okay.
One started dragging me out, finally and pointed out Katie who was completely mobbed by over 10 kids at least, and then they started crying out about 2 teachers. Then they found Abby and brought her in as well! It was super funny and just adorable! I talked to a few of them before Katie started motioning to class, so I pointed that out to the munchkins, got like 3 of them seated, and left before Katie tried to spank me or something.
Then dinner once she finished. Same as lunch, utterly bland.
After that we had Activity Time, which was fun. Katie was down there with her camera before me, spending time with  my Grade 5 girls. Which apparently meant we were trading, little did I know, because then Katie’s younger kids came for me. We did a random game of Rock-Paper-Scissors, then I had to chase them, then we played London Bridge [I may or may not have had to make up my own lyrics because I don’t really remember any], then the littlest ones stole me to play Rock-Paper-Scissors again before they had to go. I got tackled into the occasional picture, which is always funny because every single kid can NOT stop moving! It was a blast!
Then our Grade 9 class. This time, we were a bit more cautious and definitely unorganized because Abby said they’d gone far into the course [or so I thought, I have no idea], and it turns out we weren’t that far so we backed up and had no idea about that one much. All the same, we watched the video and went over the worksheet which took a lot less time than our first class.
Finished with that, we taught them some casual greeting slang to know, as well as the important ‘Dude’ and we finished up with two songs. ‘We Are Young’ and ‘Just Want You To Know’- for both songs I had brought the lyrics and we went over them with the class, pointed out a few words, read over it and then sang along with it. Thank goodness that took up all the time, because we really hadn’t planned anything else!
Overall, a pretty dull day, but it’s nice to start to get back into the regular rhythm.
