9/23/13
We got water! Yay! Thank goodness, or Katie would have dried
up. Into a prune. Or a date. Ew or a raisin. Then I’d have to throw her out.
After that, we started getting ready for the school and we
were there by noon. We had lunch with Abby and Greg, catching up a little since
we hadn’t seen them for three straight days and they went around to the
villages and such.
That was fun, and then I hurried back to our office to skype
my family! At that time, back in California, the sun was setting on my baby
brother’s 13th birthday! Man that makes me feel old… Anyways, so I
ended up talking to the whole of my family so that was a good bit of fun,
catching up after a bit of time and all! :D
I spent an hour on and off with sketchy skype there, and
shortly after that, I taught! Funny enough I had to teach my Grade 3 Class 1-
same as yesterday! Gee I bet they loved that, haha. It was pretty good, though.
They’re getting down the discipline system- it always drives them crazy when I
write it up on the board. And yes, it makes me nervous offering to let them
watch a DVD every lesson, but hey, movies are huge in America, and they got
another B today, meaning NO DVD.
It was a jumbled mess of fun, but worked all right overall-
we never even listened to the bell/music signaling class was over, so we had
class for 50 minutes before I realized the time and rushed next door!
I taught Class 2 after that. The lesson went a bit more
organized than the class before- just about Opposites, which they conveniently
covered recently so that made me feel awesome- but they were definitely
noisier! I installed the same system, which worked for about half the class-
but the rest basically ignored. I had a kid about to pass out from all the
shouting he was doing to try and get them to be quiet. It was sort of funny,
but I felt so bad for him!
But otherwise, both classes had a good bit of fun. We all
wrote down our English names on colored paper, and then I chose them that way
to try to find the opposites on the board. That took them a while to
understand, but eventually it started making a bit of sense and that was a lot
of fun for them! And I finally took the
camera to class- which wasn’t the best idea. I forgot about it for the first
class but the second one- I had my main trouble maker, Sam, snitch the camera
and start playing around with it. Which got me nervous because it’s not even
mine, and I wanted to get the ball rolling- and kids back in their seats! Haha.
Overall, however, things worked out well.
Katie and I switched in the office, and she headed off to
classes. I read for a bit and fiddled on the internet. I had about 5 kids flood
in at once, and I brought out the markers and scrap paper which got them
excited, but it faded when I wouldn’t let them keep the markers or anything.
They were pretty silly about it all the same.
Dinner time! It was definitely good- they had some spicy
rice with potato slices, green beans and chunks of meat in it as well- then
another sliced potato dish which was very yummy, and they brought out their
delicious rolls! So good, I don’t know if we were desperate for more food or
what, but we loved it! It’s so good, delicious.
Activity time came shortly after, and we were surrounded by
some of my Grade 5 girls. We played the weird Rock, Paper, Scissors thing- we
got a group of about 8 of us going at a time, which was kinda crazy but a bit
of fun. Then Katie and I taught them ‘Down By The Banks’ which was pretty
funny. Then 12 minutes in, the kids had to go and we were suddenly done!
It started sprinkling and remained sprinkling the entire
time we walked home. It was a quiet day overall, and quite peaceful. Feels
weird, though, because yesterday was like a Monday, so we just had two of them
in a row. Ah, well…
