Saturday morning. I dozed on and off. Katie was efficient,
having showered and cleaned up her room and more before I even considered
getting out bed. I only found out about what she did when I finally got out of
bed, which was a few minutes before ten.
We got hung up waiting for a text or two from Nicole. We had
hoped to have a fun day with her, one of our last Saturdays in Guiyang after
all! We wanted to do some fun but she had just gotten home the other day and
probably wanted some sleep so we didn’t want to rush her or anything.
So we watched Modern Family for a few hours.
Turns out, Nicole had guests in town and couldn’t hang out
at all! Which totally sucked, we were super bummed! So we had to figure out
something to do… there’s some Chinese building on top of a nearby hill along
our bus route and Katie figured it was this one Philosophy place she wanted to
see, so we decided to go and find it!
We boarded the bus, and headed out. Katie ended up finding
it just up the road past the stop, through and archway and just around the
corner. Pretty impressive! Well, it was the philosophy place, but we couldn’t
find the building right on top of the hill, though she’s pretty sure they’re
connected.
Still, the place was pretty cool and decently impressive. I
loved the buildings and scenery!
But we didn’t love the cold.
We didn’t want to go home right away so we ended up taking
our [hopefully final] trip to Wal-Mart to grab a little bit more food and other
random things we wanted. We were bored out of our minds and wanted to stay out
of the house as long as possible. Except that Katie’s a whiz and rushes through
everything so we were done pretty fast.
Then she came up with the cool idea to find the ‘stationary
store’ with school stuff and all- Abby had told us about finding some decorated
paper, a lot like wrapping paper. So we hopped on the bus and went to go find
it. And hey, it’s Katie. Of course we found it.
We got a few rolls each for 1RMB a piece. They’re not really
rolls, after all, but large rectangles of paper. It definitely works, but
there’s a reason it’s so cheap.
Of course, being in town, we had to grab street food. Katie
tried this funky sandwich thing, with a hard roll and meat and seasonings
inside. Unfortunately, the bamboo-like root was in there! That was pretty
frustrating and disgusting. We may or may not have stopped to the side once or
twice to get them out of that snack. But otherwise, it was pretty good and
Katie really liked it!
I ended up getting this fried rectangle of dough, with
scrambled eggs and green onions inside. It was super good! I’m not a big fan of
eggs but it was so worth it- not that there was very much in there anyways.
Also a teensy bit of seasoning, so its sweet but then there’s the occasional
POP!
We got home! We wanted to save wrapping for the next day so
we’d have something to do. So, bored, I pulled up Once Upon A Time and Katie
joined me for that!
