12/18/13: Skype and School Bags

Wednesday

School breakfast! It wasn’t as great, again, unfortunately… oh well. But there was an interesting slice of bread I got- sesame seeds outside, with a piece of cake in the middle! Funky! But it was pretty good!
I chilled with the book The Haunted Bookshop for a while, fiddling with the computer while Katie planned out most of her lessons and then she taught after that, with all her crazy cute kids! We ate lunch after she finished with them and then we headed home.

There, I took the time to shower and brought the heater into my bedroom while changing BECAUSE ITS SO FREAKING COLD EVERYWEHERE and while we were at it, we started planning and putting together Grade 9’s music lesson for that evening because the school internet is just terrible. Katie waited around afterwards to skype with Andrew who had just gotten off his mission, but I had class so I went to the school on my own.

Back in the office, I reviewed the lesson and then went to teach. Class 1 was pretty nutty, actually, it was kind of ridiculous. A teacher ended up walking in which shut them up immediately- I have so little respect, apparently… oh well. Just the usual feelings of inadequacy really, haha… Still, it’s all good.

Then Katie’s kids ran in when I was done and back in the office- she still hadn’t shown up! I almost panicked and called her to find out that she was at the school gate and almost there! I met her halfway to give her the teaching bag, and then returned to the warm office while she taught!

We did dinner when she was finished- not too impressive- and then Lisa from grade 5, pretty annoying and demanding but super smart and usually chill wanted to play around so we indulged her a little bit, and then some more with the other girls strolling through, but eventually went back to reviewing our lesson for Grade 9, before the girls had to go and we had to go teach.

Some more kids were in there than usual, yay, good start. But it was still slow to start and that was pretty ridiculous….

They’re always talking to their friends or doing their homework, so it takes forever to get the kids engaged lately, although by the end of class everyone is a chatterbox.  We covered music genres and watched a few music videos and got their personal takes on music, so that went well. They enjoyed it enough that we didn’t watch any of pirates though we did give them the option. Not too terrible, but many of them focused on their homework the whole time which was frustrating.

We went home, watched a ton of the mentalist until about midnight when the computer began freezing and having issues so we went to bed!
