12/23/13: DVDs, Food, and Layers

Monday- our LAST Monday!

So of course we spent it chilling around the apartment because it’s been so cold outside. Seriously, it’s below freezing most of the time, we believe, though there’s been no snow or anything. But we can just about always see our breath!

We left for school a little before noon to go get lunch there. It wasn’t by any means fabulous, but it sufficed and then we headed to our office… to plot our final lessons. Awww!

I handed Katie my Christmas schedule, and we sorted out what we would be doing- normal lessons for the first class of the week, and then the second- our LAST- we’d do a Christmas lesson and finally tell them we’d never see them again. Okay, that’s harsh, but unfortunately, most likely the truth…

It was pretty dull through and through until I went to teach my classes.

Oh, however, Yoyo QQ’d us up letting us know she needed to get grades from us… great. So I handwrote all the names, in Pinyin for their Chinese names or their English names, and headed to the classrooms.

Grade 3 Class 1 first! That took forever to sort out. I didn’t tell them I was writing down their grades. But I did it based on how well they talked to me as well as behavior during class. I had to have a kid help me out sorting out the names, because some of them were in Chinese and I knew with a surety there was no way I could pronounce them correctly.

However every kid wanted to help! It was frustrating, and I had to constantly tell the kids to sit back down. But nicely because I was trying to enjoy my second to last class with them! Even though they were pretty nutty and such.

Anyways we finally got through with that, and then I dug out the Final Round of my question game, which they always have a blast with. However we did get caught up on “What’s in the top left corner of this picture?” in an I Spy picture…  Yikes. Finally we just skipped it and continued.

We survived the class! Thank goodness.

Off to Grade 3 Class 2. My favorite class! They were pretty awesome, if a bit noisy. I was missing my favorite student, Eaddy, who ran off somewhere… oh well! Unfortunately, again, I had a few students missing so I had to work with a few students there to remember who they were and sort out a grade for them. Basically everyone got A or B… I didn’t hate anyone enough for a C.

But they were cute, if a little SUPER RAMBUNCTIOUS over the team game. Like Class 1, everyone was climbing out of their seats and going crazy over the game, but again, they were tied by the time class ended.
After that time, I went back to the office to chill and Katie went to go teach her classes! She took Abby with her to explain to the little kids that we are moving back home to America. Yikes. And she spent all of her class time with grades, because all the kids knew she was doing it and she used it against them to keep them quiet, except they kept trying to barter with her for A+! Haha, cute…

Instead of sticking around at the school for dinner, we headed into town! Weee! Where, might you ask? To get DVD’s of course! Holla! We got off around the Temple Stop to get big puffy dumplings… only to be severely disappointed. My first one was filled with bean paste, so I ate around the edges and then tossed it, and the other one was vegetable with mushrooms which wasn’t too bad, but turned sour at the end. I still ate it, of course. Katie’s weren’t too impressive either, which was a shame- first time we went there they were so tasty!

We were next to the underpass, so we went downstairs and were at our favorite little DVD shop… Luckily this time we had planned ahead for all movies we wanted. Unfortunately I didn’t find three of what I wanted, which sucks… oh well… But I found a few others- I bought 7 and got two more for free, as planned, so that worked out all right! Katie grabbed a few more, and then we went back up on the other side of the street to the bakery on the corner.

Chocolate cake disappeared into our bellies fairly quickly, which surprised us because we weren’t even that hungry. But it was still pretty good, and we already worked out how she gets the jelly in the center and I get some extra cake and frosting below it to make it equal.

Katie knew she’d want spicy potatoes also, so I ended up getting something extra in the large bakery [small by American standards of course]. It cost about an American dollar and it was delicious! It was a super light and fluffy bakery bun with a sugar glaze on top. Then there were hot dog chunks inside. Also on top were onions and corn! Which should not have worked by any means, but somehow it was incredible!

We stepped back into the cold and Katie bought her spicy potatoes! Unfortunately she didn’t get them spicy enough, but they were still pretty good with the slightest kick to them. We sat down and waited for the bus. There was an adorable girl with shifty eyes and her mom came over. The girl tried talking to us and showed us a cute candy egg she had gotten. Adorable, dressed up in a large puffy coat with animal ears on it! Then her mom motioned that we should wear more layers… yeah, even strangers are telling us to do that now, haha…

Anyways they eventually left and we eventually got on our bus. We ended up getting home and watching Forrest Gump because Katie hadn’t seen it yet. She wasn’t too impressed.
