Monday! Back to our schedule!
I spent the morning working on emails as Katie cleaned up
her things [smart move because I have piles of messes everywhere], and we
worked on laundry a bit more to get everything cleaned up. We did our usual morning
routines and finally headed out, if a bit late, for lunch at the school.
Not too shabby, and then we went to our offices and talked
to Abby and Greg to find out how our classes had gone for them! Not too bad,
evidently, and thank goodness! After
that fun chat, I set about to getting my lessons together.
And reading Percy Jackson. Ehm…
Anyways, my first class was a bit of a mess. I was working
on trying to get them to describe things, but everyone kept talking and it got
really frustrating. The lesson just wasn’t working. So instead, we moved on and
opened our books. They hadn’t done the Goldilocks story yet, so they read that
and drew pictures and things like that. If they completed the two pages
perfectly, I gave them a sticker. I gave out maybe 5 today. But some of them
tried! That or they were sliding around on the floors when they thought I wasn’t
watching… yeah, I have no idea.
Surprisingly it was the next class that went spectacularly.
Seriously, and they’re usually so chaotic! I tried the same lesson and it went
so well! They got a kick out of describing the pictures to me and learning
about points and corners. We never got through the whole lesson because they
all wanted a DVD at the end, but it was going so good I didn’t even want them
to watch the DVD- and that’s when you know it’s good.
I got them all quieted, lights off and blinds down, and
showed them a Spiderman clip which they enjoyed. We still had another minute,
so I started one of the funny dog videos, I don’t know if they’d watched it
before but I thought I’d give it a shot all the same! Which they loved!
Everyone was super bummed when I turned it off, but they waved me good bye and
it was done. I couldn’t believe how well it went.
Katie went and taught her classes as I continued reading and
listening to the Dracula Broadway soundtrack. Which is absolutely incredible,
by the way. Brilliant, just lovely! Yeah, her first class was pretty bad for
some reason but her second class rocked it! They’re so cute, coming in to pick
her up- usually its one faithful boy who hangs her purse over his head, but
this time there was like 5 of them. So adorable!
After that, Maggie came looking for Greg because the kids
were doing tug o’ war. We couldn’t contact him but Katie wanted to check it
out, so we linked arms and headed out to the quad. We watched the kids goof
around a bit before they brought out an extra long and thick rope for the game,
and they put kids on both sides- a ton of them! And one side totally demolished
them!
They reversed sides and the same team still won, it was
awesome!
That was about it, however, Maggie discovered, so she took
us to dinner upstairs. We ate and she said the cook wants to know what food he
could cook us! Which was super sweet though totally unnecessary, seriously! But
we pointed out some things at the school we’ve had before and really enjoyed,
and hopefully they get the idea that we’re still liking a lot of the food… just
somedays we don’t want to gnaw meat off bones or eat scales or something like
that, haha.
Anyways, that was nice. We took Maggie back to the office
and showed her pictures of our time in Beihai. When she left, Katie had to
finish planning out an email so we stayed a little longer for that, and finally
headed home. Super cold outside! And this morning had such promise with the
shining sun… oh well…
We stopped for hot drinks, but they switched lanes which
totally threw us off, that was pretty insane… haha. Anyways, we grabbed those
and headed home, to journal and enjoy a movie before crashing into our
comfortably large beds!
