Monday morning!
We had been planning to head into town that morning for some
food. Because street food is awesome, after all, and we didn’t have classes
until hours after lunch. However, we had been so tired that I got up about ten
am [twelve hours of sleep, booyah!], and Katie didn’t really get up for another
half hour after that.
And she felt terrible. Her cough was horrendous as well, you
know.
So that prevented us from going out- which was fine because
we had plenty of snacks to hold us over, and a huge bag of cuties to be eaten.
Also, we had my apple juice and her yogurt so we weren’t deprived of anything
at all!
I ended up heading over a little after lunch, but Katie
stayed in bed because her classes were after mine and she still felt terrible.
The weather was beginning to suck again, too. Nonetheless I headed off, bought
myself a water and two pieces of delicious chocolate mousse cake [with six
layers!] for that night before reaching the school.
I planned out some lessons, copied some of Greg and Abby’s
movies over to my school computer, and headed off to teach.
Both of my classes were chaotic. Class 1 Grade 3 wasn’t as
terrible, but they were still a little crazy, it was nuts. We didn’t get
through too much and most of the kids were confused by directions and they’re
always dragging me around to their desk [literally], or bringing their books
up- even when I’m trying to shush the class.
Class 2 was worse, however, as they usually are. Katie gave
me hopes because they did so well with her last week but it must just be a
guest thing- if she became their teacher, eventually they’d be as crazy as they
behave in my class as well! Everyone kept beating each other up, so I’ve
started putting down two marks for every time they hurt each other. That
usually makes them think twice.
Anyways, not a lot happened over all, unfortunately.
When I finished, I checked my phone and as requested, Katie
updated me on her status- she wasn’t feeling any better, and thanked me for my
earlier offer on teaching her classes. I didn’t promise to do much, but I
thought I’d do something or other with them, so I grabbed a drink of water and
started heading to her class.
That prevented most of her kids from wandering away and
trying to look for Kate. It was both of her Grade 2 classes, her better behaved
kids, so they sort of got the idea Kate wasn’t there, and I would be teaching
instead.
They were very enthusiastic and loved talking to me for a
while, which made it hard to start class. But eventually I got them into their
seats, and taught them a few words with a ton of pictures. There was a constant
buzzing of voices but every time I clapped, they started shutting up! So that’s
kind of a good thing over all? I just had to clap a lot!
All the same, I did give them a DVD at the end, because I
ran out of things for the lesson, even testing them with their knowledge of
body parts. I had a Donald Duck Halloween video clip which got them all pretty
excited and they pretty much shut up for the whole thing, which was dandy-
looks like they rarely get this as a treat. So hopefully I didn’t get in
trouble or anything…
Then I cleaned up, said goodbye- they all waved me the crap out-
stopped by my office and followed her other second graders down to the ground
floor into the next classroom. There were still five minutes or so, and half
the kids were right outside on the playground. I had no idea what to do about that, but
luckily soon they all came trooping in and stared at me. This took a while
longer to begin- they were a bit noisier overall.
But in the class there is
this one little guy who is always trying to shut the class up- he’ll holler and
just about cry over the whole ordeal. Poor guy… so not to make him feel too
bad, I’d start clapping and that would shush them for a good minute or so,
before returning to the same slide of words and pictures that I had used to
teach just minutes before- this was the slide I had made for her Grade 1 class
the other week.
This one was a little crazier but it still worked and I
still let them watch the Donald Duck clip which they enjoyed, except it was
then dinner time so they never got to finish it or anything which they were
bummed about and I was a little scared of the teacher, not knowing if it’s
really okay for the kids to watch anything or not. But so far, I haven’t been
told otherwise…
Four classes in a row! That was a bit of an event. I had to
drink a lot of water after that, that’s for sure… Then I grabbed my things and
met Abby and Greg at dinner, which wasn’t too shabby although the dinner’s have
been getting less awesome of late. All the same, we filled up and went our
separate ways. I covered a few things on the computer, uploading pictures and
such, before heading out.
I knew Katie hadn’t eaten, so I stopped to get her a little
noodle bowl because I thought that would help her, but then I got home and she
refused to eat it [lame butt]. However, we had our own little halfway point celebration
eating the delicious cake and watching the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy- we
both read the book [and I read all the sequels] during the summer and loved it,
and we’ve been saving the movie for a special occasion the whole time!
Then it was barely nine and I didn’t want to go to bed, and
I had grabbed The Croods, so we ended up watching that. It was definitely a
bizarre movie over all, but pretty funny and cute, and after that we finally
dragged ourselves up and back to bed!
PS. DON'T PANIC
