Saturday! And finally, the day we’ve been really excited
for: the Ancient Town!
It’s just what we wanted, if not better.
Katie was out of money so we used mine. I brought 500, plus
Greg grabbed 1000 from the bank for us, although I don’t think we even touched
that. Which is crazy because we bought a freaking ton of really awesome stuff,
and gifts and bracelets and food!
First off, 22 bus stops into town. Then crossed at one point
to the other side of the street, maybe, and found street food because we were
hungry. Holy cow such a good spot for awesome street food! The day is done but
I’m still thinking about this morning…
We bought these huge fried circle bread things with
spiciness and green onion in them. They came in a nice brown bag thing so the
oil didn’t drip down our fingers because it probably would have and they were
SO delicious. A few booths down we bought what looked like a breakfast burrito.
Here, they make omelet like patties and usually cut them up but these were
shaped like burritos with noodles and potatos in them and they were SO spicy
and SO good.
Seriously. The street food in China is one of the best
things about this country, I swear. I’m in love with it all.
Anyways, so we walked past the main bus stop, then to the
right there’s this square area and straight ahead is Hubin Park with the Ferris
Wheel. As you cross the street, straight to the right is where bus 210 parks.
There’s a few stops in between, but yeah. They limit how many people get on. We
waited about 30 minutes in line with a ton of people but luckily got seats when
we boarded.
It took one hour and twenty minutes overall. We chatted the
whole time, of course!
It’s about 10 for the basic entrance- we didn’t go into the
temples or anything. BUT IT WAS STILL SO
AMAZING. Authentic, beautiful, incredible, breath-taking, and super fabulous in
every single freaking way! Definitely the best day in Guiyang yet!
I mean, yeah we did a ton of shopping…. We spent about 200
RMB each. We’re always pretty even which is super creepy but pretty cool. So
much awesome stuff, great deals, enough almost tourist-y stuff. Umm we found
cold noodles which we ate for lunch, not too bad. Not a ton of food overall,
though.
We were too busy being in love. The fading architecture. The
plucked chickens wandering around and making sure Katie could avoid them
safely. Seeing the folk, travelers and homesteaders alike around on their
business. Oh, and a few fabric shops because they are known for their brilliant
blue and white dye cloths- lovely! The fun things for sale- little pumpkins,
scarves, art, meat, and more! The day was beautiful, a little cool, and
incredible.
Definitely one of my favorite days here in China.
I bought a few gifts, which was perfect! Also bought myself
a silver bracelet along with a jade one [I know, I’m not married by any means
yet but someday I will be. And hey, most Americans would never understand so I could definitely get away
with it], this cute dragon basket that you can totally flatten up for packing
and put candy and stuff in it. Oh, and I bought a pipe! Katie and I have been
discussing this and I’ve never really collected something in my life, besides
using about a hundred notebooks… so I decided on pipes. I’ll never really use
them but I love the quirky characteristic pipes they have here and I couldn’t
resist and it was less than 5 USD so… ta da!
Katie and I bought cold noodles there, a little more
expensive than in town but still very tasty! We took some time to sit down by a
temple- and then were practically mobbed
by all these boys going around who wanted pictures with us. Then this old man
came up and wanted a picture, too!
Definitely a day we felt like celebrities. Katie, mostly- I
was taking pictures for them. Tons of random Chinese grabbing pictures as
though she’s famous… granted, she was wearing a fancy scarf and sunglasses, so
you never know! But it was still cool, and she even traded QQ numbers with one
of the sweet girls we met!
Lunch was fun, and then we wandered around some more. Lots
of little allies and random shops to go through. It was so much fun! Way too
much fun. We’re thinking about going back, we loved it so much. It’s a total of
8 RMB for all the buses, 10 to get in, and other money for food and souvenirs.
It’s really not a bad deal overall, it’s fabulous!
Anyways, overall, we loved it. With our purses full and lots
of pictures taken, we finally left. We had to wait almost an hour to get on the
bus, which was annoying. It came every ten minutes and sat for another ten
minutes, but still felt like it took forever!
All the same, we got back to town safely and headed on the
bus home. We went our own ways and Katie and I bought more snacks before
stopping home and putting things away.
Then a movie night! Holler! Haha, anyways it was our halfway
mark of being here in China [say WHAT], so we wanted to celebrate so we ended
up doing an all-nighter with a freaking ton of snacks and plenty of movies!
Unfortunately, our TV decided to backfire and not work which
was super super stupid. But at least my computer worked, I suppose. We ended up
watching Made of Honor, Star Trek Into Darkness, V for Vendetta, Monsters
University and finally 13 going on 30 until about 7 the next morning! Through
that, we had real oreos, chips, cuties, and hot drinks!
