Nov 3 2013: Jackie Chan

Sunday-

We were up a little early on Sunday, since we had a flight in the early afternoon. We packed up and got ready for the day, but left our things behind as we headed out for the morning. Katie and I had bought some rolls at a nearby 7-11 and then Abby and Greg picked up food at McDonalds and then we headed out to the Avenue of Stars, not too far away from our hostel.

There was a slight sprinkle, but it made for such a lovely day! We really enjoyed it. Not too many people were out that morning and we wandered around to enjoy the views. It was incredible and very lovely, although a good bit humid. We wandered over the short walk with the Stars, I got my picture with Jackie Chan, and then we walked on. We ended up taking a loop back and wandered through a garden or two for fun before making our way back to our hostel.

We grabbed our bags and checked out. Katie wanted to take the ten flights of stairs down, and I went down the packed elevator on my own. But I had lost her. Apparently, the stairs don’t go down to the right floor level. That’s what. So Katie met up with Abby and Greg on their way down and found me waiting at the entrance.

Katie and I walked back in for samosas for breakfast before leading Abby and Greg back to the tourist shop for like the third time to wander around and try to find something for Nicole. It took us a little while, but eventually we got her a keychain, and then Abby and I grabbed little things for ourselves as well before heading out.

Next store was the subway, which got a bit confusing as well because the Airport Express is a bit different and we couldn’t go straight there and we’d have to pay again- I don’t really know, but it just got a good bit confusing, that’s all? Haha, anyways we got on a short route or two before getting closer and finally catching the Expressway, paying another 100 to get there! It was a little ridiculous.

The airport is one of Katie’s favorites and I can totally see why. It’s very spacy with lots of windows looking out and it just looks super chill! We got help picking up our tickets and we began wandering around and looking for some food. It was a bit confusing overall but thank goodness I wasn’t the one leading us around.
Abby and Greg stopped to get some sweet toast, and so Katie and I grabbed drinks. I bought a hazelnut chocolate milk tea which didn’t taste like it had any tea and was super smooth and pricey at 18 but absolutely delicious!

Except something upset my stomach so I didn’t end up finishing it. We went through security and I had to toss out my drink and I don’t think I was even halfway full! It was absolutely horrendous overall, that action. I deeply regret that. However I couldn’t think of another strategy, so it had to go.

Overall, Hong Kong had been good to us. They usually had western toilets, it was very culturalized and made me feel almost as though like I was back in America. It was pricey, but it was fun and very beautiful over all. And it was nice not to get stared at so much- and so many white people, that was pretty intense.

Drinkless, we finished through security and were able to sit down. All of us were pretty worn out so we didn’t do a lot of talking. The plane was once again delayed, so we spent even more time just sitting around, before finally hoping on the little bus to take us to our plane. We boarded and then we couldn’t use the runway just yet, so again we were delayed.

I love take off, but my eyes were drooping and I can no longer remember how much of the take off I was actually awake for, unfortunately. But I think I was awake for part of it. And then they brought the same as before, a water cup and another bread-roll thingy, but this time I think it was mushy fish and vegetables? I don’t really know but this time I took most of it out because it was just super weird tasting, smelling, and looking.

The rest of the plane ride was pretty uncomfortable, but I was very much out of it. I don’t even remember us landing, and I don’t believe I was conscious for most of that until I had to get back on my feet.

We stopped at the restrooms [they had a western toilet here?!], and then stood in line forever for a taxi. Seriously, it took a good while. Not very fun. Oh well… so we finally caught ourselves a taxi and climbed on in. Unfortunately in the middle, the cabbie took a wrong turn and tried to get back- through a crazy street!

Super crazy street, one that didn’t look big enough to drive through. It was sketchy and such a Chinese experience, it was awesome! Katie and I were cracking jokes about it, too, that it was our house there. “Oh yeah, we didn’t tell you? We moved… yup, right next to those chickens. But we keep telling the guy, he’s got to keep them locked out. Every time they come near, I strangle them… Yup, and we have good chicken for dinner!”

Then home sweet home! It was great! We unpacked then did laundry and caught up on Modern family. We went to the school for dinner and finished Modern Family that night with some snacks. And at long last, bed!
