Oct 10 2013: Okay, Just A Casual Day

I stayed in bed until almost nine o’clock. It was incredible, cozy, and delicious. Eventually, though, I did get bored and clambered up to find Katie randomly sweeping after her shower. We did our morning hello’s as I got onto my computer to find something to do until noon when we were going to head to the school.

For a while I fiddled through my stories, found some things, and transferred pictures and such to my thumb drive to take to school. Katie soon joined me out on the couch and was starving even after we had our yogurts. We finished off our rice cake snacks, and even ended up with some candy. We found this super weird nutty square- sweet at first but then it was SPICY! Super odd. We didn’t trust that candy any longer and refused to finish it. Maybe another time.

Eventually we dressed for the day and headed out! We talked with Nicole and made plans to hang out tomorrow night, a movie night for us girls, and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Afterwards, we went to our office with the sketchy internet, said hello to Greg, and began goofing around for a bit. On our computers, that is.

Not knowing much else of what to do, I planned a few Halloween lessons- just about haunted houses and costumes. There’s not much more I can get across with any more of my students. I created three of them, too, and that was more than enough, thank goodness! Then more playing around, I got the blog updated, pictures posted, and I started reading Bradbury’s ‘Farenheit 451’.

Their naptime eventually ended and my kids came a-calling! They’re getting super cute about it. I always try talking to them a minute or two before heading out the door. It’s so much fun seeing their cheerful faces excited! They love goofing around and we make funny faces at each other all the time.

I taught Grade 4 first, and like I said, I had more than enough time with my costume slides. I taught them about masks, and we also included the adjectives of lame and ugly [opposite of cool and beautiful], so we went through things and considered that. I’m not too sure if I got the haunted house across too well, but they liked the scary pictures [although I’m trying not TOO scary, you never know and I don’t want to get in trouble], and it’s fun to see what they like and don’t like. Super random. Most liked the kid looking like a train conductor, but no one liked the mermaid, for example.

So that went well, they even got a DVD at the end.

Then I stopped at my office for a drink, and my Grade 3 Class 3 kids came and got me as well. There was a lot of commotion over DVD. There’s a big girl in the class, super helpful and almost as tall as I am, always trying to help me out with how to run the class and talk to them. Anyways, she said something about only DVDs on Tuesdays or something? And not doing DVDs today.

So I didn’t write down notches but kept something up there anyways. But hey, even if they COULD have gotten a DVD- they would NOT have deserved it. Worst class of the week, it was such chaos! Kids fighting in the back, four of them, and then two girls stole a boy’s sweater in the front and he was chasing them around the classroom. I went through part of Halloween and such, but not much because it’s the class Journey wants them in their books, so then we brought that out and fiddled with that for a bit until class finally ended. But it was such chaos.

Right at the end I got them to be mostly quiet, and I pointed out that I had five good students in the front, so I gave them high-fives, but the rest of the class was bad.

After that, dinner time! I headed out with Katie, it was yummy! Also, Journey mentioned this right before I came to class: one of my students invited Katie and I to dinner with his parents the following night. And right as class had ended, he appeared and talked to me about it. Well, he tried. I filled in the missing words and told him we are coming and excited!

Although then on our way out of dinner, we had to tell Nicole the bad news we wouldn’t be able to do the fun girl’s night. Super bummed! We felt really bad, and want to do it whenever she has free time again. Hopefully soon!

Some sort of announcements were going on so no Activity Time. We fiddled on our computers for a bit before finally walking out the door.  We headed home, chilled, and then walked back out for ice cream and hot drinks! Because yes, it does make sense to us.
